dude why do so many hot rods have terrible interiors?? I feel like people have no idea how to make a good interior and it makes me sad.

I'm not sure. This guy went with the cover-everything-in-grey-fabric approach. I'd be content with a board with some holes drilled into it.

the grey fabric approach seems especially common in this vintage.
My next dash is going to be a flat sheet of sheet metal with one of these dead center and that's it:

too expensive and kind of a waste when you consider that the primary purpose of diamond plate is to improve traction. I'll meet you in the middle— sheet metal and a can of black spray paint on the dash, and diamond plate floor boards.
